Help: Rod Cutting
What you need to fill in
- Rod length (meters)
- The length of the original rod/profile you have available, in meters.
- Cut thickness (mm)
- How much material is "lost" in each cut due to the thickness of the blade/saw.
- Pieces
- In each row of the table, enter how many pieces you need (Quantity) and at what length (in mm). You can enter up to 15 different lengths.
What you'll see in the results
- How many rods you need in total to cut all the pieces
- How the pieces are distributed across each rod (cutting plan)
- The remaining waste left from each rod
The calculation form
| Quantity | Length (mm) |
|---|---|
| 4 | 1500 |
| 3 | 800 |
Frequently asked questions
Every time you cut the rod, the saw/blade "eats up" a bit of material. Without this parameter, the calculation would overestimate how many pieces fit on each rod.
The algorithm tries to minimize the number of rods/waste, providing a practically very good solution for everyday use in a workshop/construction site.
